The Contextual Villains
The Contextual Villains are Rachel Peachey and Paul Mosig ...when they decide to work together to make things that seem too big for one small creative person to comprehend.
The Present History was born in the wee hours of early morning insomnia, 40 degree heat and 100% humidity. In a falling down room, in a back alley, in the desert of Rajasthan.... Rachel in a state of delirious nostalgia decided she would like to make a collaborative talking book.
The fact that something like this has actually happened being quite amazing in a world of many glorious dreams that only get to live inside her head. This being where the villains come in..
.....together we convinced artsACT that it was a great idea to make this book with a soundtrack and with the help of our exceptionally talented friends we have tried to tell a tale that included all the things that fascinate and perplex us day to day.
As well as taking some of our own photographs and trawling through countless op shops in search of visual detritus, the villains used the contributions of over twenty visual artists and writers to make collaged images that try to tell a cohesive collective story.
We hope you like it...
As well as distributing the book, we are looking for somewhere to call home for a couple of years and developing work from a residency with the Department of Archaeology and Natural History and the Australian National University.
